What would I do?
Ten dollars is not a lot of money these days. You could easily spend that for a quick snack at Tim Horton’s or to buy a small item at the Dollar Store. It might not even pass as acceptable allowance to some kids, but ten dollars can actually be used to get you the things you need to get yourself over a virus quickly.
As a mother of three children, I am very used to budgeting and learning how to stretch my dollars. I’ve also learned a thing or two from my mother and grandmother on home remedies that are proven to help your body recover without breaking the bank and are just as effective as prescription drugs without any side effects.
So, if I only had ten dollars to get healthy, what would I get?
I would go to the grocery store and buy some fresh garlic, thyme, ginger and lemons. I could probably get all of these with change left over too! These common herbs, fruits and vegetables should be a staple in every household and the benefits they provide are amazing.
Garlic is known for it’s antibiotic properties. It’s a natural immune booster and can aid in the recovery of colds and flus. Many people shy away from taking garlic because of it’s pungent smell that can linger on the breath. I’ve found that boiling sliced garlic cloves in water to make a tea is a refreshing way to ingest it and works very well. Adding some honey to it help to lessen the taste if it really bothers you.
Thyme is great because it is not just used in cooking but it is also useful in fighting infections. Thyme has antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties making it a perfect additional to boosting your immunity.
Ginger, often used by expecting mothers to relieve nausea, is also used for easing the effect of cold and flus. It is also used to relieve pain and inflammation.
Lemons! Lemons have so many uses. From drinks to salads to baked goods but it also an excellent source of Vitamin C, flavonoids and antioxidants. A proven immune booster.
As you can see, my ten dollars went very far and gave me an arsenal of sickness fighting power! I often put all of these ingredients together and make it into a tea and give it to my family and it drastically reduces the length of their illness.
